I liked the Playstation Metal Gear back in 97 or was it 98, whatever. Play that game now and it looks really ugly and so for me it has not held up with time. It was a big game for me and I did devour it when it came out. I have fond memories of that game. My favorite Metal Gear is Snake Eater, of course the revised version that lets you shoot different ways than the original. Now that game was damn good and the jungle setting made it even more fun to sneak around and slice some throats.
Metal Gear 4 for one is complete crap because of the movie length, boring cut scenes. I don't want to watch some kid cook an egg for five minutes. Were they trying to show off how not realistic they can make scenes? Those cut scenes for me were the worst I have ever had to endure. I can't remember for sure, I think you could skip the scenes half way through or some of the times you could. Of course if I could I would. The only other game with cut scenes even close to MG4 is Cathrine.
The game play itself is not even close to being as interesting as PSone MG or MG3. I don't even have to go into detail with this. There are a lot of fans of this game and I can only have an opinion about their brains functioning correctly. Fuck this game, Ok I will go into detail. It's boring and predictable. Sneaking around is weak and there are narrow hallways everywhere and not enough room to work around and get on top of people. Hide in barrel for what? To lubricate yourself is what. I don't want to sit in a damn barrel. I want to be moving around and getting stealthy at a good pace. The boss battles don't compare to MG3, remember that sniper part in MGS3 where the old guy is hanging out in the jungle and you have to find him. Now that is a boss battle, that is an interesting boss battle that I can remember well. To see the reviews on game sites being so high is a reminder to myself that I have to take these reviews with a grain of salt. I have to at least try these shitty games out to find for myself that they are good, great, or plain ol' shit.
